Junior Young was convicted of the manslaughter of Hilda Lockert 86.
He killed her on 30 April 2001 but was not convicted until 2021 following developments in DNA.
Hilda Lockert died after being mugged by two youths.
She lived on the Myatts Field Estate in Stockwell.
She was thrown down some stairs and was taken to hospital with a broken left leg and a metal plate was inserted. However, she died a while later from a blood clot.
She had been mugged six times before and had given up reporting the attacks to the police as no one was ever caught.
Her attacker took her shopping bag, her wallet with £15 in cash, a bus pass and a Tesco loyalty card.
It was said that her two attackers were no older than 15 years old and were said to have been black one wearing a bobble hat and the other a baseball cap.
She was 4ft 11in tall and described as having been at the complete mercy of her robbers.
At the time Junior Young was arrested but he had said that he had had no reason to visit Langport House where Hilda Lockert lived and no further action was taken.
However, following further developments in DNA analysis of the shopping bag handle he was convicted of klling her on 22 November 2021. At the trial Junior Young suggested that the DNA could have been transferred to the shopping bag by another person, but refused to name anyone else that might have handled it.
Her neighbour said that Hilda Lockert had once told her in conversation that the youths on the estate would end up killing someone and noted that she could not have known that it would have been her.
She died on her 86th birthday.
The court heard that Junior Young had two previous convictions for robbery in 1999 and 2001.
